Sustainability and reducing waste. These remain two of the most important topics in the food industry. Big conversations, for sure. And every one of us can contribute to improving the situation and the planet with just a few simple and delicious steps. It’s time to get your juicing and smoothie moves going! ????
Try using produce from your kitchen, like ripe bananas, berries, etc. to make delicious juices and smoothies. While some people may be turned off by overripe fruits and veggies, the truth is this is the stage when some produce is sweetest and tastier. Below are a few quick ideas for you to try.
Banana-Blueberry-Vanilla Almond Milk Smoothie
Grab one super ripe banana, ½ cup of sad-looking blueberries, and mix them in a blender with 8oz of your favorite vanilla almond milk. No need for sugar, as your awesome smoothie will be perfectly sweet already.
Blueberries are popular, so if you don’t have any feel free to substitute them with equally delicious looking strawberries.
Strawberry-Kiwi-Lime Juice/Slush
Speaking of raggedy looking strawberries, grab a cup and mix them in a blender with one whole squishy kiwi, the juice of one whole lime, and ½ cup of ice.
Carrot-orange Juice
Grab 3 limp carrots (if using baby carrots, use 1 cup) and peel them, mix with the juice of 2 soft oranges. Serve on a glass, add 1 tsp of chia seeds and ice, and let it sit for 5 minutes. Stir and enjoy!
Want something more feeling, and probably great for breakfast?
Peanut Butter-Banana-Yogurt Smoothie
Add all these ingredients to a blender:
1 medium, very ripe, banana
½ cup of your favorite greek yogurt
½ cup of your favorite milk
2 tablespoons of peanut butter.
½ cup of ice
Mix. Enjoy!
The possibilities are endless. Be creative! But most importantly give those fruits and veggies that may look past their shelf live a chance. You won’t be disappointed! Please, share your creations with us by tagging us on social media.
